About DORA

The Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) is an EU regulation designed to strengthen the IT security and operational resilience of financial entities.

Enforced from January 2025, DORA mandates firms to protect critical systems, manage ICT risks, ensure secure data sharing, and report incidents promptly.

By harmonizing ICT risk management across the financial sector, DORA aims to safeguard the stability of the financial system against cyber threats and operational disruptions.

What does DORA require regarding data security?

DORA mandates financial entities to implement robust measures to safeguard sensitive data. This includes using encryption for data at rest in use and in transit, ensuring secure data sharing with third parties, and applying access controls to prevent unauthorized access.

Organizations must also perform regular audits, maintain detailed activity logs, and develop incident reporting mechanisms. These requirements ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with the regulation’s operational resilience goals.
