About LFPDPPP

The Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP) is Mexico’s privacy regulation designed to safeguard personal data in the possession of private entities.

Inspired by frameworks like GDPR, it establishes rules for the collection, use, and safeguarding of personal data while ensuring user rights for access, rectification, cancellation, and objection (ARCO rights). It applies to businesses and individuals processing data within Mexico, with some exceptions.

What does LFPDPPP require regarding data security?

The LFPDPPP mandates that businesses implement administrative, physical, and technical measures to ensure the protection of personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. These measures must be proportional to the sensitivity of the data being processed.

Organizations are also required to establish internal policies and procedures for data handling, conduct risk assessments, and maintain confidentiality to comply with the law and safeguard user privacy.
